Running a group on Retail ERP Software in Oman

Omani retail groups rarely stay in one city. A family group might buy centrally in Muscat, run branches along the Batinah coast to Sohar, inland in Nizwa, on the coast at Sur and down in Salalah, and be eyeing Duqm. Each region has its own pace and its own suppliers, yet the owners want one set of numbers. A retail ERP gives every branch the same item list, price rules and chart of accounts while letting regional managers see their own results. Symake delivers from Bengaluru, with consultants flying in for workshops and go-live, and supports branches across the Sultanate remotely.

Group back office for Omani retailers

Head office control with regional visibility

Central buying

Central buying

Head office negotiates national supplier terms, while regional managers can buy approved local lines from nearby suppliers.

Regional pricing

Regional pricing

Keep a national price list and add regional variations where costs or competition differ, all approved centrally.

Group promotions

Group promotions

Launch national offers across every branch or target one governorate, then compare results region by region.

Company ledgers

Company ledgers

Each legal company in the group keeps its own books and VAT registration while sharing suppliers and items.

Group consolidation

Group consolidation

Combine results across companies in OMR with inter-company sales removed, so the group view is not overstated.

Inter-company transfers

Inter-company transfers

Goods moved between branches of different companies create matching entries on both sides automatically.

Regional dashboards

Regional dashboards

Managers in Sohar, Nizwa or Salalah see their own branches' sales, margin and expenses without seeing the whole group.

Treasury view

See bank balances across all companies and plan supplier payments from the accounts that hold the cash.

Consolidated accounts for Omani groups

Groups often split branches across companies for historical or ownership reasons. Symake sets up each company with its own ledger and VAT number, links them through inter-company accounts, and adds a consolidation layer in OMR on top. The owners then see one profit and loss for the group, and auditors can still review each company on its own.

  • Separate books for each legal company
  • Inter-company entries matched both ways
  • One group profit and loss in OMR
  • Company-level reports for auditors

Rolling out region by region

How Symake moves a national group onto one system

Head office

Finance and buying in Muscat go live first, with suppliers, items and the chart of accounts.

Pilot region

One region, often the Batinah coast, follows to test branch routines under real trading.

Adjust

Lessons from the pilot shape the setup before the wider rollout continues.

Interior

Branches in Nizwa and the interior join, with training delivered online and in person.

South and east

Salalah, Sur and other branches join next, timed away from their local peak seasons.

Consolidate

With every company live, group consolidation and national dashboards are switched on.

A retail back office for Oman

Across the Sultanate, VAT is charged at 5% and has been since April 2021, with returns filed with the Oman Tax Authority. Groups with several companies file for each registration, so the back office keeps VAT separate by company. The Fawtara e-invoicing rollout is planned in three steps: a pilot from August 2026 for about 100 of the largest taxpayers, phase 2 indicated for early 2027 and phase 3 for mid to late 2027. Larger groups should check early whether they fall in the first phases.

Why Omani groups choose a phased rollout

Moving a whole national network at once puts every branch at risk on the same day. Symake phases the rollout by region, learns from the first one and adjusts. Consultants fly in for each wave, and remote support covers all branches.

✓ Muscat head office goes live before the regions
✓ Consultants in Oman for each rollout wave
✓ Remote support for every governorate
✓ English training per role and region
✓ 200+ projects delivered by Symake
✓ Written plan with dates for each wave

Frequently Asked Questions

Can branches in different governorates have different prices?

Yes. A national price list can carry regional variations, approved at head office, so a branch in Duqm or Salalah can price differently from Muscat where it makes sense.

How do you train staff spread across Oman?

Key users train in person when consultants are in the country, often in Muscat, and branch staff learn through live online sessions and short recorded guides.

Do separate companies file VAT separately?

Each VAT registration files its own return. The back office keeps VAT by company, so each return draws only on that company's transactions.

Should a national group go live everywhere at once?

We rarely recommend it. A phased rollout starting with head office and one region lowers the risk and lets the team fix small issues before every branch depends on the system.

What should a group ask when choosing a retail ERP?

Ask how it handles several companies, consolidation, regional pricing and central buying, and ask to see inter-company entries working. Many systems handle one branch well but struggle with groups.

Will Fawtara apply to our whole group at once?

That depends on how the Oman Tax Authority assigns taxpayers to its planned phases. We review your companies' status and plan the connection for each one as dates are confirmed.

Can regional managers see only their own branches?

Yes. User roles limit reports and screens to the branches each manager runs, while owners and finance see the full group.

Will we deal with a local Symake office in Oman?

No. The delivery team sits in Bengaluru, India, and our consultants travel to Oman for workshops, training and go-live. Support is remote, in hours that overlap the Omani working week.
