What to expect from Retail ERP and POS Software in Doha

Doha retail stretches from mall counters in West Bay and The Pearl to busy neighbourhood stores along Salwa Road and in Al Sadd. Weekends fall on Friday and Saturday, and those are the days when queues and stock gaps show up. Symake's retail system gives each branch a fast counter and a live stock figure, and head office, whether in Msheireb or elsewhere, sees takings by branch through the day. Qatar has not introduced VAT, so receipts carry no VAT line today. The tax settings already exist in the system and can be switched on when a law takes effect.

What Doha tills and head office each handle

What runs at the till and what runs behind it

NAPS Payments

NAPS Payments

Debit cards on the NAPS network, credit cards and Apple Pay are recorded as separate tenders and matched at shift close.

Offline Counter

Offline Counter

When the connection drops in a mall basement, tills keep selling and send their receipts once the network returns.

Clean Receipts

Clean Receipts

Itemised receipts in QAR carry your company details, the returns policy and a code that brings the sale up later.

Returns Desk

Returns Desk

Refunds follow the original payment method, and returned goods are booked as resellable or damaged in that branch.

Points and Offers

Points and Offers

Loyalty points and timed promotions run on every branch till, from The Pearl to Salwa Road, with one customer record.

Shift Close

Shift Close

Cashiers declare cash and card totals at the end of a shift, and supervisors see any difference before the drawer leaves.

Branch Stock

Branch Stock

Each sale reduces stock in that branch at once, so buyers see what is selling in Al Sadd versus West Bay.

Supplier Purchasing

Supplier Purchasing

Purchase orders, deliveries and supplier bills are matched in one flow, with landed costs added for imported goods.

QAR Accounts

QAR Accounts

Sales, refunds and payment fees post to the QAR ledger, with other currencies kept for supplier payments abroad.

Ready today, ready for tax changes later

Qatar has an approved e-invoicing law but no dates yet, and VAT is not in force. Doha retailers still need structured sales records now, because when either rule arrives the work is in the data, not the receipt printer. Symake's retail system stores every sale with item, price, tax code and payment, so turning on a new tax or e-invoicing link is a setting and a test, not a new system.

  • Every line stored with a tax code from day one
  • E-invoicing link added when dates are set
  • No new system when rules change
  • Test runs before any tax goes live

Built for retail counters in Doha

Retail in Doha runs with no VAT at present. Officials have said a VAT law is coming, but no date has been set, so Symake's retail system does not apply any VAT on Qatar receipts today. The tax settings exist and can be turned on when the law takes effect. Qatar has also approved an e-invoicing law with no start dates published yet. Because every sale is stored in a structured form, linking to an e-invoicing platform later is a configuration step. Payments are taken in QAR and the NAPS debit network is supported at the counter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Doha receipts show any VAT yet?

No. Qatar has no VAT law in force, so Doha receipts show no VAT. The tax settings are in place and can be switched on when Qatar introduces VAT, after a test run on your own items.

Can cashiers take NAPS debit cards?

Yes. NAPS is recorded as its own tender alongside credit cards and Apple Pay. The terminal comes from your acquiring bank, and the shift close compares counter totals with the terminal's settlement.

What happens to sales if a West Bay store loses its connection?

The till keeps working with the item and price data stored on it. Receipts print as normal, and sales upload to head office as soon as the connection is back.

Is Qatar's e-invoicing law covered for Doha stores?

The law has been approved but start dates have not been published. Sales are already stored in a structured form, so connecting to the required platform will be a setup task once the details are released.

Where does the Symake project team sit?

In Bengaluru, India. There is no Symake office in Qatar. Consultants travel to Doha for workshops, training and go-live, and support is remote. India's day overlaps most of Qatar's working hours.

Can we sell online and in-store from one stock pool?

Yes. The online store reads the same items and stock as your branches. Web orders can be picked from a chosen store or warehouse, and online returns can be accepted at any till.

Which reports does head office get?

Sales by branch, hour and cashier, margin by item group, stock cover, slow movers and payment totals by tender. Reports can be scheduled by email or viewed live on a dashboard.

Can we price in QAR and buy from suppliers in other currencies?

Yes. Selling prices and the ledger use QAR while supplier orders can be in other currencies. Exchange differences on payment are posted automatically.
