FMCG ERP, Billing, Inventory and Distribution in Salalah for Khareef

Salalah's FMCG year turns on Khareef, roughly June to September, when a large visitor peak lifts sales in Al Haffa, Al Saada and around Hawana Salalah. Distributors build depot stock beforehand, often from goods landed at Salalah Port, then run tighter routes to Mirbat, Taqah and Thumrait. SalesMake records each batch on arrival, bills deliveries with VAT at 5%, and shows which batches will not sell before they expire once the season fades. Credit for seasonal outlets can be set and reviewed per period. Consultants fly in from Bengaluru for workshops, and support continues remotely.

Getting through Khareef without stock write-offs

The hard part of Khareef is not selling more. It is what happens after. Stock bought for peak demand can sit in a Raysut depot into October, edging towards expiry, while seasonal outlets close with balances still open. SalesMake lists short-dated batches by depot, flags seasonal accounts with money owed, and links every return to its invoice, so the season closes cleanly in the books.

  • Short-dated batches listed after the peak
  • Seasonal accounts with open balances flagged
  • Returns linked back to their invoices
  • Season profit visible in the ledger

Billing and stock rules in Salalah

Salalah follows Oman's national tax rules. VAT has been 5% since April 2021, collected by the Oman Tax Authority, and excise applies to some goods such as sweetened and energy drinks. Fawtara, Oman's e-invoicing programme, is being phased in: the largest taxpayers were in a pilot planned from August 2026, phase 2 is planned for early 2027 and phase 3 for mid to late 2027, and the dates may still move. A Dhofar distributor should keep invoice data structured now, which SalesMake does by default.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can SalesMake plan stock for Khareef?

Yes. Last season's sales by item and area guide depot stock targets, and the stock report shows the gap between those targets and what is on hand. Your team still decides final quantities.

How are outlets that trade only in Khareef handled?

They get normal accounts with limits and terms, flagged as seasonal. Before they close, the system lists their open balances so reps can collect while they are still trading.

What happens to stock left after Khareef?

A short-dated list by depot shows what is left and when it expires. You can move it to year-round outlets, attach a scheme or arrange returns, and every step is recorded.

Can we trace a batch that arrived through Salalah Port?

Yes. The batch number is captured on receipt and carried onto every invoice, so a report shows which outlets received it and how much is still in the depot.

Will someone from Symake come to Salalah in person?

Yes. Consultants fly in from Bengaluru for workshops, training and go-live in Salalah, ideally in the quieter months. Between trips, support runs remotely during overlapping hours.

Does VAT at 5% apply to every item we sell?

VAT is charged at 5% on standard-rated goods, and some drinks also carry excise. Your accountant decides each item's tax treatment, and SalesMake applies it on every invoice line.

Can reps working towards Thumrait use the app offline?

Yes. The app is built for areas with weak coverage. Orders, surveys and collections are saved on the phone and sent when the rep reaches signal again.

How early should a Salalah distributor start?

Ideally months before Khareef, so the count, setup and training are done while volumes are low. We plan the steps backwards from your season start date.
