One national view: FMCG ERP and Distribution Management in Oman

An Omani brand may sell through a distributor in Muscat, another on the Batinah coast around Sohar, one covering Nizwa and the interior, one in Sur and one in Dhofar around Salalah, with Duqm growing on the Al Wusta coast. Each keeps its own records, so the national picture is assembled by hand every month. SalesMake gives all of them one system, one price book and one scheme calendar, and head office sees orders, stock, claims and cash by governorate as they happen. Seasonal swings such as Khareef in Dhofar are planned for that region alone. Symake consultants fly in from Bengaluru for workshops, mostly in Muscat.

Comparing regions on the same terms

When every distributor reports differently, comparing Sohar with Sur means cleaning data first. In SalesMake all distributors share the same items, price lists and scheme rules. A scheme run only in Dakhiliyah can be compared with Batinah, where it did not run, and the difference in volume and cost is visible straight away. Head office decides whether to extend it nationally.

  • Same items and prices for every distributor
  • Schemes tested in one region first
  • Results compared with regions left out

Rolling out SalesMake across Oman

Six steps that bring distributors online region by region

National design

Head office agrees items, price lists, scheme rules and credit policy that every region will share.

First region

Distributors around Muscat go live first so the core setup is proven close to head office.

Batinah next

Sohar and the coast follow, adding refill planning and port arrivals to the live setup.

Interior and Sur

Distributors in Nizwa and Sur join, with training online and in Muscat.

Dhofar

Salalah distributors go live with Khareef season rules in place before the peak.

National review

Once all regions are live, we review dashboards and scheme results with head office.

Distribution control for FMCG brands in Oman

Across Oman, VAT has been 5% since April 2021, collected by the Oman Tax Authority. The Fawtara e-invoicing programme is being phased in: phase 1 was planned as a pilot from August 2026 with the largest taxpayers, phase 2 is indicated for early 2027 and phase 3 for mid to late 2027, and the authority may still move these dates. A national brand needs consistent VAT data from every region, so SalesMake records it the same way on every distributor invoice and credit note. Excise on sweetened and energy drinks is tracked separately across all governorates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can SalesMake cover distributors in every Omani governorate?

Yes. Distributors in Muscat, Batinah, Dakhiliyah, Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and Dhofar all use the same system, and head office sees their data together or by region.

Should we go live everywhere at once?

Usually not. Most brands start with the distributors closest to head office, then add regions one at a time. Problems surface early with a small group.

Can we run a scheme in Dhofar only?

Yes. Schemes can be limited to a region, a distributor or a pack. Results can then be compared with regions that did not get the scheme.

How does SalesMake handle Khareef in Salalah?

Season dates and seasonal credit can be set for Dhofar distributors only, so the rest of the country keeps its normal rules during the peak.

Can two companies in our group share distributors?

Yes. Each company keeps its own ledger and VAT number, while products and distributor records can be shared and reports combined at group level.

Where are workshops held for a national project?

Most workshops take place in Muscat, with consultants flying in from Bengaluru. Regional training can run online or during visits to the larger regions.

Is the system ready for Fawtara?

VAT is stored in structured form on every invoice and credit note across all regions. The Fawtara connection is set up once your phase and the technical rules are confirmed.

Can distributors in remote areas work offline?

The field app is built for low-connectivity areas. Distributor reps can keep working and the data syncs when the connection returns.
