Custom Odoo Development in Kerala

Custom Odoo development in Kerala for groups whose sister companies, district branches and Gulf-based promoters need something standard Odoo and Studio cannot give. Symake writes the specification with you, shows a prototype, then builds in short cycles.

From signed spec to release: custom Odoo development in Kerala

A group with offices in Thrissur, Kozhikode and Kottayam often finds the gap only after go-live: an approval that must pass through two sister companies before the promoter in Dubai signs it. Standard Odoo has approvals, but not one that crosses companies in that order. Before any code is written, Symake puts the rule into a functional specification that your finance head and the promoter both sign. A technical design follows, naming the models, screens and access rules the bespoke module will add. Only then do our developers start, in two-week cycles that end with a demo on a staging copy.

What a Kerala custom build hands you

Nine documents and files you keep from each stage of the work

Functional specification

Functional specification

Plain-language pages on what the module must do, who uses it and which cases are out of scope, signed by your side before design.

Technical design

Technical design

A short note naming new models, fields, views and access rules, so a future Odoo developer can follow the reasoning without asking.

Clickable prototype

Clickable prototype

Mock screens your branch heads can click through on a laptop, so layout and wording are settled before anyone writes Python.

Cycle plans

Cycle plans

A list for each two-week cycle of what will be built and shown, kept short so you can follow progress without reading code.

Automated tests

Automated tests

Python tests that run on every change and confirm approvals, totals and access rules still behave as the specification says.

Staging database

Staging database

A copy of your live data on Odoo.sh or your own server where each release is tried by your team before it reaches users.

Release notes

Release notes

One page per release listing what changed, what was fixed and what users should try first, written for staff rather than coders.

User guide

User guide

Screenshots and steps for each new screen, which our trainers use in Malayalam sessions for branch staff across the districts.

Upgrade notes

Upgrade notes

A record of which standard Odoo parts the module depends on, so moving from Odoo 17 to 18 or 19 starts with a known list.

Why Kerala groups sign the specification first

Code is the expensive part of a custom build, and changing it later costs more than changing a paragraph today. That is why Symake asks the business, not the developer, to sign the specification. Across more than 200 projects we have seen that the clearest specs come from a short meeting with the person who will use the screen daily. Scope is then fixed in writing, and a named project lead stays with you from first draft to release.

  • Business owner signs the spec, not the coder
  • Scope fixed in writing before any build
  • Named project lead from draft to release
  • Changes after sign-off go through change control

How a Kerala custom build moves

Six stages, each closed with something you can check

Specify

We write down the rule, the users and the exceptions, and your side signs the pages.

Design

Our developers map the rule to Odoo models and screens and share the note for review.

Prototype

Mock screens are clicked through by the people who will use them, and wording is fixed.

Build

Work runs in two-week cycles, each closed with a demo on the staging copy.

Test

Automated tests run on every change, and your team tries real cases on staging.

Release

The module goes live on Odoo.sh or your server with notes, a user guide and support.

Custom builds for Kerala businesses

Kerala requests tend to share one shape: a rule that crosses sister companies or districts and that no standard app quite covers. Symake has written bespoke modules for groups in hotels, education, retail, FMCG, healthcare, real estate, manufacturing, and distribution and logistics across the state. Any new document a module creates follows Kerala GST, carries e-way bill fields once a movement crosses Rs 50,000, and supports e-invoicing for entities above Rs 5 crore turnover. User guides are taught in Malayalam, and the technical design stays in English for whoever looks after the code.

Why Kerala promoters hand Symake their rules

Symake works from Mahadevapura in Bengaluru with consultants who travel to Kerala districts. We tell you plainly when Odoo already does the job, and we never build on Odoo Online, which allows no custom code.

✓ Spec signed before any code

Put your Kerala rule into a specification

Send us the process standard Odoo misses, and we will reply with a draft spec outline and a frank view on whether to build.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can our promoter in the Gulf sign the specification without travelling to Kerala?

Yes. The specification is shared as a document with comments, and the promoter can mark changes and approve it from anywhere. We hold the review call at a time that suits both Kerala and the Gulf.

Our Kerala companies follow slightly different approval rules. Does each need its own module?

Usually not. One module can hold the rule with settings for each company, such as limits and approvers. The specification lists the differences company by company so nothing is guessed.

Do your developers come to Thrissur or Kozhikode while the module is being built?

For the specification and prototype review, a consultant can visit. Build cycles run remotely, and demos on staging are shared on a call so district teams can join without travel.

How do we know a custom build is worth it and not just a nice-to-have?

We ask what the gap costs today in hours, errors or delayed decisions. If a standard app, Studio or a small automation closes it, we say so and do not quote for code.

Why can we not keep our database on Odoo Online if we want custom code?

Odoo Online runs only standard apps and Studio changes. Python modules need Odoo.sh or your own server. We help you move first, then build, so the module has a proper staging copy.

What does it cost to own custom code after release?

Expect work at each Odoo version change, small fixes when users find edge cases, and hosting that allows custom modules. The technical design and tests keep that cost lower, and we estimate it before you approve the build.

Who keeps the source code once the bespoke module is live?

You do. The code sits in a repository under your account, with the specification, design and tests beside it, so any competent Odoo developer can pick it up later.

What happens to our module when Odoo 19 arrives?

We check the upgrade notes against the new version, adjust the code, rerun the automated tests on a staging copy and release only when they pass.
